Summer Sailing

July 1st begins the Captain Whittaker Summer Sailings as follows.

We sail Twice a day at 9am and again at 2pm, Everyday of week,

2 Fishing Trips Daily!
Sail at 9am and return at 1 pm
Sail at 2pm and return at 5 pm

AM Trip: departs at 9 am for a 4 Hour, Half-Day Fishing Trip, Arrives Back at the Dock at 1pm. The Captain Whittaker is the only boat at Captree that departs at a convenient 9 am in the morning for a Half-Day Bay Fishing Cruise.

PM Trip: Departs at 2 pm for a 3 Hour “1st time Fishing” Trip, Arrives back at the Dock at 5pm. This a shorter fishing trip, works great for the kids.

4 Pack of Fluke

May 24th, 2024 brought a 4 pack of fluke for one of the anglers on a Captain Whittaker Fishing Trip, where they found the mystical, magical place of flowing fluke and hopeful smiles.

When you find the place, it doesn’t take a 4 pack, maybe you connect on one, its a lot of fun.

Catching Fluke

Captree Inlet fishing was good yesterday. Temperature heated up, winds out of the southwest, sun shining. Great day to be fishing on the Captain Whittaker.

Come Fishing with Captain Rick, for a great Fishing Trip. The Whittaker has been fishing the waters of the Great South Bay and Captree Inlet for more than 60 years.

About Fluke

Captree fishing for fluke on the Captain Whittaker

Fluke have a spotted skin that changes from an olive color to light brown based on the bottom composition that allows them to blend in with bottom of the bay. They are bottom feeding Predators hunting for Spearing, Squid, Mud Crabs and Sand Eels. Unrelenting hunters, Fluke will feast on most any smaller fish including Baby Sea Bass and Sea Robins.

Fluke or Summer Flounder come to the Great South Bay to spend the summer before migrating to the Carolinas.

The meat of a Fluke is soft white flake with a delicate taste and texture. Broiled Fluke with a little olive oil, lemon and salt is mouth watering delicious. The Captain Whittaker crew will filet your catch, for you to prepare a delicious fresh dinner.

Captain Whittaker sails everyday, twice a day, from Captree State Park.
